Catalina Island is located in the Pacific Ocean off Southern California. It's part of Los Angeles County, approximately 22 miles (35 kilometers) southwest of Los Angeles.

Take the Catalina Express Ferry from Long Beach, Dana Point, Newport Beach, or San Pedro.

Can you drive to Catalina Island?

No. There is no bridge to Catalina Island, and cars are severely restricted on the island. 

So, what is the weather like in January on Catalina Island?

January in Catalina is rainier, windier, and cloudier than the spring, summer, and fall months. The weather and water temperature are also colder.

In January, the average temperature is 59°F  The maximum temperature can reach 65°F. The minimum temperature can dip to 54°F.

It's not the best time to swim and snorkel, but it's a great time to hike on the island.
